Whats Involved

By visiting Relate, individuals, couples or family groups have sessions where they think through an issue or work through a problem.

Our counsellors and therapists are trained to help people understand themselves better, relate better to others, work things out for themselves and make decisions about what to do next.

Initial Appointment

When you contact the Relate Centre you will be offered an initial assessment, which will be for you and the counsellor to establish the type of counselling that would suit you and whether you would like to arrange some ongoing sessions. This first appointment can usually be booked within a couple of days. The appointment is 50 minutes long.

Ongoing Counselling Sessions

All counselling sessions use the same registration process and last 50 minutes. Your counsellor will use the other ten minutes making notes to prepare for your next appointment. There is a short waiting list for evening sessions, however if you can attend during the day you are likely to get an appointment more quickly.

Relationship Counselling

These sessions are normally weekly and provide an opportunity to explore your relationship difficulties in greater depth. You can attend with your partner or alone.

Sex Therapy

Open to individuals or couples, these sessions also usually run weekly.

Family Counselling Sessions

These are currently run by Relate Basingstoke, normally run fortnightly and are tailored to suit your particular family group, including children.

Young People Counselling Sessions

These sessions usually take place after school hours and into the early part of the evening. There is no charge for these sessions, however there is a short waiting list
